In Utopia

I can’t believe I am almost 3 days behind on the blog. It must mean I am relaxing and enjoying myself. Let’s just say, that is an understatement. If you are looking for an amazing experience, come to the Myconian Utopia Resort on the island of Mykonos, Greece. It is an amazing experience. The ladies asked for a 5-star experience and they have received just that.

The ride in from the ferry was a little sketchy and Yordie had a hard time picturing there was anything beautiful in the wind-eroded hills. The rocky hills, and sandy terrain looks barren. All of a sudden you see a sign for the Royal Myconian. There are 5 complexes that make up this property. Utopia where we were staying opened in 2013. I’m not sure if we were upgraded, but Jennifer George, this place rocks!

We were greeted by a handsome, tall gentleman from Guest Relations by the name of Kostas. We are handed scented frozen face-cloths to cool down and then chilled pink Prosecco to wash down the thirst of our journey. Are you happy yet? The sighs from the girls were either from the treatment or the sexy Kostas. Jen and Jo-Ann waited for Kostas to give them a “personal” tour of the complex and room amenities. I think that included another couple of glasses of Prosecco. Yordie and I had Joy give us a tour, and couldn’t wait to get into our swim suits and into the infinity pool. First, we marveled at our terrace with 2 sun beds, an umbrella and a 4 person hot tub overlooking the sea. Into the main suite is 50″ LCD TV, a canopy queen bed with Egyptian cotton and thread count on sheets that this travel-weary body was lookimg forward to be wrapped in. The bathroom tub is stone and oval, and the vanity is wood with 2 sinks also from stone. The slate shower is large enough for 4 people and the separate toilet area is behind black smoked glass. There is also a separate balcony with 2 chairs and a tsble if you need another view. Very chic and tres elegant.

For the past 3 days, We have enjoyed cocktails by the salt water infinity pool that overlooks the Aegean Sea. The view will be forever sketched into my memory. It is spectacular. Every room has a sea view. No partial view as I have experienced in other resorts. The sunsets are not to be missed. The service at Utopia is awe-dropping.

I’m sending a big shout out to Bojan our pool attendant who has service down to an art, and a smile that could chase away any clouds.

Tasos, our talented bar tender/mixologist will create and serve you up wonderful concoctions. He has a great cocktail made with Greek Masticha with mandarin juice and lime. I drank this only for medicinal purposes. The wine list is quite extensive. I recommend the rose from Provence, France. Bojan will bring it to you, open it in front of you; taste test; and plunge it into an ice bucket. The long stemmed wine goblets are not allowed to be empty. When you are not looking, Bojan quietly refills your goblet with sweet nectar. Sigh, this lady is very happy.

All the while the breeze from the Aegean caresses your body and is soothed by the sounds of light jazz. Lef the DJ is very creative and a talented music mixer. I look forward to following his career.

Lef our DJ

Sotiris will ease you through dinner and into the evening with his saxophone. I fell for his smooth sounds immediately and he plays so well to the audience. You know this lady enjoys a little Latin music and he didn’t disappoint. Thank you for the memories my friend.

My Greek Adonis

The sunsets are beautiful on Mykonos. Love is in the air as couples are honeymooning, renewing their vows, people are with their partners and those of us single ladies looking to revisit a Shirley Valentine moment; it’s all here at Utopia and we will leave it at that. 🙂

From chilled Prosecco with grapes or Bloody Mary’s before you dine on a breakfast buffet of smoked salmon, feta cheese, bacon and eggs to the delicious pastry treats. Finish breakfast, grab your beach bag and head for the infinity pool overlooking the Aegean Sea or dunk your feet into the sea at the private beach. I heard the beach was great but this lady plunked herself on a padded chaise lounger and only moved to dance. Yordie and Jo-Ann explored Mykonos town and I look forward to the pictures and visiting it next time.

From the brochure: “Designed to have a ‘green conscience’, the Myconian Utopia Resort was built utilizing environmentally friendly techniques, with each suite or villa meticulously outfitted using locally sourced and sustainable materials. Hand-cut stone, rich exotic woods and an extensive range of custom-made furnishings fuse modern opulence with traditional craftsmanship to bring you what can only be described as a sanctuary for the senses in a dream-like destination.”

The decor is very cool – love the stuffed sheep.

The food is considered top notch and one of the best on the island according to guest relations. I suggest a reservation and I see it taking off for sure. The chef is certainly creative. The presentation is of superior quality but lacking a little in taste for some selections. Perhaps it is because I’m missing some spicy food.

Consistency is what I would aim for. The seared scallops were under done and tasteless. They could have been seared in butter or sesame oil with a pinch of salt. The lamb knuckles served on a bed of sweet potato purée were very good. When I went to settle my account, my credit card needed a pin #. I had to leave my table to go to reception to process my bill. When I returned my cappuccino had been removed. I really enjoyed the cappuccino. They did make it right by not charging me for the scallops and my cappuccino was on the house. Thank you!

Perhaps it was a bad night, but it seemed disorganized. I’d give my meal a 3/5 rating but the property a 5/5.

The spa services are excellent. I took advantage of the lime and ginger salt scrub that included a facial. The back massage was also amazing and rivaled back home. Whatever you want, you can have it here at Utopia, just ask.

I will miss Utopia, the people and the experience. I will definitely return for a longer stay to rejuvenate.

I'm not leaving, Nooooo!
I’m not leaving, Nooooo!

I miss you already.

Today, we check out and head back to Athens by ferry for a 1 night stay at the Divani Acropolis (we think) before we return home and back to reality.

  1. I must admit, there are many 5 star hotels I have had the pleasure of staying in my lifetime…..& up until now I thought the hotels in Egypt, Provence France or The Swiss Hotel in Lima could not get much better but I was mistaken. The Utopia Spa was absolutely amazing & left me feeling like staying longer. Donna, we might have to do a pitstop on route to Spain next time!
