This morning after a terrific breakfast, we hop on the MTR and make our way over to Hong Kong Island with the purpose of taking a tram up to The Peak, the highest viewpoint over Victoria Harbour.

The Peak

We used our Go City Pass to get our ticket which was included and waited with the other tourists to get a seat on the tram which is a funicular. A funicular is a type of cable railway system that connects points along a railway track laid on a steep slope. I’ve been on one in Switzerland and I expect this one to be as much fun.

One of the world’s oldest and most famous funicular railways, The Peak tram rises to 396 metres above sea level. It is so steep that the buildings you pass look like they are leaning. You go up facing forward and down facing backwards. It takes 8-10 minutes to ascend. You can also visit the Sky Terrace where you feel on top of the world. The views of Victoria Harbour are spectacular. It was a good thing we visited when we did, because a typhoon was coming in. It was a level 1 today, but would increase to a level 3 by the end of the day.

At least the clouds didn’t obscure our view. Up top you will also find Madame Tussaud’s wax museum that we bypassed and shopping and dining is also available. It is extremely busy and the market is full of souvenirs. Escalators take you up the many levels. Did I say it was busy?

I have to learn how to pose for pictures. There are so many young kids making the peace sign and giggling. They are adorable.

After The Peak, we decide to do a hop on/hop off bus tour where upon Yordie announced she wanted to do some shopping and wouldn’t be returning with me to the hotel. The bus took us to the Star Ferry terminal where I bid her farewell and she stayed on. I think Louis Vuitton was calling her. She promised she would be back in time to get ready for dinner.

I enjoyed the ferry ride back and walked along the Avenue of Stars until I reached the hotel, an approximate 20-25 minute walk with my little legs but add in a side visit to the K11 mall.

I was pleased that Yordie texted me to assure me she was okay. Safely back at the hotel, we got ready for dinner and our second Michelin star restaurant, the Demon Celebrity,

We had a private room with a huge round table and a huge glass lazy-Susan.

Tonight, we were served a more traditional Cantonese family-style. The dishes came out and were spun around so we could enjoy all the tasty bites. I tried shark-fin soup for the first time. I thought shark fin soup was banned here, but I’m afraid it isn’t.

Everything was delicious. Chef Fu and Chef Alvin popped their heads in to the applause of the table. Chef Fu is a little shy, and it was nice he took the time to see us. There wasn’t one dish I didn’t enjoy. I posted the menu above and here are the dishes.

Bellies full, we head back to the hotel and once again pass out from a food coma! What a trip this has been so far. Tomorrow, we will be meeting Chef Alvin at the Lei Yue Mun seafood market where he will orient us to the seafood, choose the fish and seafood for dinner and go to a restaurant where they will cook our selections.

Can’t wait!
