About Me

Woman holding a cup of coffee while sitting on a cobble stone street.

Join me on my adventures and immerse yourself in the stories and places I visit. I am a senior, independent travel writer, mother of 2 and a nana to 5 who believes travel is the best education. I will attempt to paint a picture of my surroundings and introduce you to the characters I meet along the way. With a little curiosity, we can learn a lot about other cultures.

Senior female solo travel is rapidly growing and it is a shame we get stuck with that dreaded single supplement. If I find a way around it, I will definitely share. My wish is to challenge readers to move outside of their comfort zone and take a trip on their own or try something they haven’t done before.

Listening to local musicians by the sea, and sharing a conversation over a beverage is a great way to spend an afternoon. I love to wander the streets, people watch, try new foods and chat with the locals. I believe in slow travel and enjoy immersing myself into the communities I visit.

I will write from a senior woman’s point of view and share what to expect, provide insights on accessibility, safety, costs, and other considerations for an enjoyable trip. I am open to suggestions on topics, etc. so feel free to interact with me. The world is at your doorstep, and it’s time to step over that threshold. Join me on my next adventure. Where shall we go next?

Welcome to Rubbing Elbows With The World – where every path leads to a new story.

  1. Hi Donna, so happy for you that you are following your dreams and doing this pilgrimage! Wow, what a hike. I hope your knee and toe feel better after some resting – and glad you’re squeezing in some vino inbetween. Hugs! – Rose

    1. Hey Rose, always have time for vino. I wish I could have shared the experience I had tonight. It was so yummy. Patatas Brava with aioli, pimientos pardon, pulpo, and ensalada mixta with abriokanwine and finished off with Conjuro de Queimara Gallega. OMG SPECTACULAR!

  2. Hi Donna, Greetings from Michigan. I stumbled on to your wonderful site by accident and so happy I did. Thank you for the wonderful recaps of your fabulous trips. I just planned my own to Italy, Greece and Turkey in September. Quite the trip and now I’m ready for more!! While in Turkey, I noticed that you visited the beautiful Lotus Ceramic Gardens as I did too. Now that I am back home, I have tried to connect with them. After several email attempts, I am having no luck. Can you please share with me how I can reach them? Maybe there is a different email address you may have or is sending an email impossible from the U.S.?
Appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you, Jayne

  3. Hi Jayne, sorry I missed this note from you. Here is the address that I have. Hope it helps. You can direct message them on Instagram. @lotus_ceramics_garden Hope this helps.
