Happy Earth Day (well a little late). Life happens.
I wanted to share this product with you that I used on my recent trip to Ecuador. It is called EarthSuds™.
Travelling with shampoo, conditioner and body wash can rack up the poundage in your suitcases. If you decide to buy when you arrive at your destination, the bottles might have to be left behind and travel size toiletries are expensive.
I didn’t wish to impact the sea life while snorkelling in the Galapagos Islands so I did some research for things like environmentally safe sun tan lotion, and stumbled across EarthSuds™.
As quoted on the EarthSuds™website:
“On top of all that, liquid shampoo is ~90% water, so it’s heavy to ship and produces high carbon emissions. Despite recycling initiatives, most bottles cannot be recycled due to contamination from leftover liquids and general poor plastic quality. These bottles just break down into microplastics which have been found in food, air, water, and even in our bodies!”
What I liked about the product
The customer service experience from beginning to end is one of the best I have encountered in a while. They kept me informed of my order in a delightful way.
The company is Canadian-based in Toronto.
TSA-approved. Don’t have to worry about being stopped or putting them in a bag for liquid inspection.
When the product arrived, I couldn’t wait to open the package and give it a try. The little cubes of lusciousness smelled amazing and clean. The shampoo smells of orange and bergamot and contains Argan oil; the conditioner and body wash smell of citrus, but if you want fragrance free, that can also be accommodated.
The product works like a charm and to be honest, I could have taken half the amount as they lasted for a couple of washings. Take the cube, add water and lather. Easy, peasy. By the way, I also used them to to sink-wash some delicate items. My hair felt clean and fresh and the body wash didn’t dry out my skin. Perfection!
Improvements
I was travelling in humid conditions and should have used the shower tin that they came in, but I would have had to bring the entire tin of 40 tablets X shampoo, conditioner and body wash which was more weight than I wanted to bring in my carry-on luggage. I know it isn’t environmentally-responsible but I split them into 3 ziplock bags, labelled them and off I went. They held up fine for the trip, but by the end were starting to degrade only because they were not stored properly. My bad!
I need a storage solution for shorter trips. I see on the website that they have mini packs which are suitable for a weekend and the sampler kit which contains 10 cubes. I will likely put them into a reusable container myself but selling just the tin might be an option for the company. They use aluminum as it is the most recycled metal.
Overall, a 5 ***** rating
I love this product, and will continue to use it when I travel. Good job EarthSuds™! This product is recognized by National Geographic as a top 10 best invention.
